NoteAlthough the security level of this method is very high, we still recommend the Digistore24 app, because it is secure, free and easy to use.
To secure your Digistore24 account with two-factor authentication (2FA) , you can use a hardware security key. A hardware security key is a physical object on which you store an access code for your Digistore24 account. This way, logging into your Digistore24 account is only possible if the device you're using is connected to the security key.
This method is useful if you don't want to use your smartphone or tablet as a security method. You can carry the security key with you and use it to securely log into your Digistore24 account, even on unfamiliar devices.
There are different types of security keys that can be connected to your device via USB-A, USB-C, or other methods. The security key usually has a contact point that you can tap with your finger to confirm. A proven security key recommended by Digistore24 is the YubiKey from Yubico. It is available in several variants and can be purchased both cheaply and easily.
Proceed as follows:
- Purchase a hardware security key if you don't have one already, e.g. a YubiKey from Yubico.
- Log into your Digistore24 account and go to Account > Details.
- Set up 2FA under Account details in the Two-factor authentication field:
- Click on Set up now if you haven't set up a 2FA access yet.
- Click on Change in the Primary field if you have already set up a 2FA access and want to change it.
- Click on Set up now in the Backup field if you have already set up a 2FA access and want to add a second one as a backup.
- Click on Change in the Backup field if you have already set up a second 2FA access and want to change it.
Attention
Use different devices for Primary and Backup so that you can continue to log in if you lose a device.
- Select the YubiKey option.
- Scroll down to the bottom and enter your Digistore24 password in the Current password field.
- Click on Continue. The YubiKey entry form is now displayed.
- Click on Finish setup.
- Your browser will open a window with possible methods for proving your identity. Click on USB security key. (The display is browser-dependent.)
- Your browser will open a window asking you to connect your security key and press your finger on the contact point:
- The browser recognizes the touch and completes the setup.
- From now on, after logging in with your password, you will see a window for further login with a security key. Click on Login and follow the instructions on your browser.
Note
If you have set up this 2FA access as a backup, click on Use backup device in the login window.
- You also have the option to enable Trust this device for 7 days. During this period, you will not be asked for a 2FA code again.
