Who is this article for?

This article is relevant to you if both of the following apply:

1. You sell deliverables (shipping products).

   AND

2. You sell through a European reseller: Digistore24 GmbH and/or Digistore24 MSLW Limited.

What’s it about?

For physical shipping products, certain product information must be stored in Digistore24 to be displayed on the order form before purchase.

Why is this necessary?

The background is the EU General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR), which is specified by national law (e.g., in Germany the "Produktsicherheitsgesetz" (ProdSG) - Product Safety Act). Providing product information is therefore a legal requirement and does not only apply to Digistore24.

Please note

What are “deliverables” (shipping products) under this regulation? Physical products delivered to customers via mail or parcel service (e.g. books, CDs, or USB sticks).

Quick overview: Which details are required?

For each deliverable, you must specify the deliverable type in Digistore24. Digistore24 differentiates between three deliverable types:

• “Supplement”
• “Book (printed)”
• “Other deliverable type” - meaning anything that is not a supplement or a printed book

Depending on the deliverable type, additional details are required:

The contact and safety information are displayed on the order form.

Important: You do not need to take care of the translations of this information - Digistore24 handles that for you!

Adding product information for a deliverable (shipping product)

1. Open the product settings of a deliverable

   Open the product settings of a deliverable so that you can enter the required product information.

   How it works

   1. Log in to your Digistore24 account.
   2. Open Product setup > Product configuration.
   3. Click on the pencil icon of a deliverable to open the product settings.

   Tip

   You haven’t created a deliverable yet?

   Then first create a new deliverable by clicking Add product (for further details, see Set up a shipping product).

2. Add a product image

   First, add a product image if none exists yet.

   Please note

   Important: According to the EU regulation, the product image must be a realistic representation of the product.

   Not permitted:

   • Caricatures, comics, stylized graphics, or symbolic images.
   • Any added text in the product image - text overlays are not permitted, regardless of whether they are informational or promotional.

   How it works

   1. Switch to the Order Form tab in the product settings.
   2. Add a product image under Product image if none is available yet.
   3. Click the placeholder image.
   4. Select an already uploaded image or upload a new one.
      Note the Approval criteria for images.
   5. Click Ok.

   6. Scroll to the bottom and click Save.

      You have added a product image.

3. Provide product information

   Now provide the required product information for deliverables.

   1. Switch to the EU compliance tab in the product settings.

   2. Select the Deliverable type you are selling.

      Supplement

      • No further details are required from you. For supplements, you only need to provide a product image.
      • Click Save.

      You have provided the required product information.

      Book (printed)

      1. Enter the Contact address of a contact person or company based within the EU who can be reached for questions about the product.

         Please note

         This can be the author, retailer or another responsible person.

      2. Enter a Contact E-Mail that can be used for inquiries about the product.

         Please note

         This must belong to a contact person based in the EU.

      3. Click Save.

      You have provided the required product information.

      Other deliverable

      1. Enter the Contact address of a contact person or company based within the EU who can be reached for product safety inquiries.

         Please note

         This can be the manufacturer, importer, retailer or another responsible person.

      2. Enter a Contact E-Mail for product safety inquiries.

         Please note

         This must belong to a contact person based in the EU.

      3. Enter the legally required Safety information, which customers must see before purchase, such as warnings, handling instructions, or age restrictions.
      4. Click on Save.

      You have provided the required product information.

For the legal aspects of your business, it is best to seek professional advice, e.g. from a lawyer, a notary or from professional or industry associations.

Tip

You can also add the product information via the Digistore24 API. This can be useful if you have a large number of deliverables/shipping products. Use the function /{productId}/legal-requirements for contact and safety information (and /updateProduct for product images, if necessary).
