The reseller model on Digistore24

A reseller buys a product and resells it under its own name. Digistore24 works this way: you sell your product to Digistore24, and Digistore24 resells it to the buyer. Digistore24 runs several resellers in different regions (see Digistore24 reseller overview).

Because Digistore24 is the buyer's legal contract partner, it takes a lot of work off your plate — payment processing, invoicing, VAT, returns, and buyer support.

You sell to Digistore24

When you distribute products through Digistore24, you're the vendor — the company that provides the product. You don't sell directly to buyers; you sell to Digistore24. As the vendor, you:

  • list your products on Digistore24;
  • promote them and attract buyers — for example through online marketing, email lists, landing pages, social media, or affiliates;
  • send buyers to your Digistore24 order form, which you can design yourself.

When someone buys through your order form, two purchase contracts are created:

  1. A business-to-business (B2B) contract between you and Digistore24 — Digistore24 buys the product from you.
  2. A business-to-consumer (B2C) contract between Digistore24 and the buyer — Digistore24 resells the product to them.

So the buyer's legal contract partner is Digistore24, not you. That's what makes the rest of this model work.

Digistore24 handles the resale

As the buyer's legal contract partner, Digistore24 runs the whole sales process:

  • Processes the payment, with options like PayPal, credit card, and SEPA transfer.
  • Creates and sends the invoice to the buyer.
  • Sends a confirmation email with the order details and a link to the digital product.
  • Handles returns and cancellations.
  • Provides the tools you use to deliver your digital products (see Deliver products to customers).

Digistore24 handles the buyer's VAT

Because each sale runs through two steps, VAT applies to both:

  1. Your sale to Digistore24: if you're subject to VAT, you charge VAT. Digistore24 pays it to you, and you pass it on to the tax office.
  2. Digistore24's resale to the buyer: the buyer pays VAT, and Digistore24 passes it on to the tax office.
