Purchase decision buttons
Purchase decision buttons are control elements on upsell pages that enable upsells. You can use the Digistore24 widget upsell buy button, or alternatively, use your own purchase decision buttons.
Each upsell product in your upsell flow requires its own upsell page, where the customer can decide whether to purchase. Each decision requires its own button on your upsell page:
- The buy button confirms the purchase.
- The no-buy button declines the purchase.
"Buy" and "No buy" are example names to illustrate the function of each button. On the upsell page, the buttons can have different titles, such as "Yes, buy" or "Buy now" and "No, thanks."
If your upsell flow includes more than one upsell step, the purchase decision buttons lead to the next upsell step:
- The buy button leads to the next upsell page. If a purchase is made there, it is referred to as an upsell.
- The no-buy button leads to the next upsell page. If a purchase is made there, it is referred to as a downsell.
In the European Union (EU), EU legal criteria for upsell pages apply. These criteria serve to protect customers and include requirements for the display and behavior of upsell pages and purchase decision buttons.
Upsell buy button from Digistore24
To integrate Digistore24 with your upsell page, you can use the Digistore24 widget upsell buy button. This widget can be embedded in your upsell page where you want the purchase decision buttons to appear. You no longer need your own purchase decision buttons. Instead, the widget displays Digistore24 purchase decision buttons on your page via an iframe. This has the following advantages:
- The purchase decision buttons meet all EU legal criteria for upsell pages.
- Only this way are one-click upsells possible if you sell through Digistore24 GmbH or if you sell to private customers in the EU.
- Your upsells have fewer complaints because there are no misunderstandings about purchases.
- You can customize the purchase decision buttons to match your website design without losing their legal compliance.

Custom purchase decision buttons
To integrate Digistore24 with your upsell page, you can use your own purchase decision buttons. When clicking on your buttons, Digistore24's behavior depends on whether the EU legal criteria for upsell pages apply.
EU legal criteria apply:
- If no one-click upsell is possible, the customer is redirected to the order form of the upsell product when they click your buy button. They can complete the purchase there.
- If a one-click upsell is possible, Digistore24 will display a pop-up on your upsell page when clicking your buy button. The pop-up contains a Digistore24 buy button and all information required by EU legal criteria. The customer can complete the purchase through this buy button and will then be redirected to the next step in your upsell flow.
Note
To complete the purchase on your upsell page, two clicks are required: one on your buy button and one on the buy button in the pop-up. This ensures compliance with the EU legal criteria for upsell pages. Since the pop-up is displayed on the upsell page, the customer does not leave the page, and the sales process remains efficient. If you want a true one-click upsell, use the Digistore24 upsell buy button instead of your own purchase decision buttons (see above).
EU legal criteria do not apply:
- If no one-click upsell is possible, the customer is redirected to the order form of the upsell product when they click your buy button. They can complete the purchase there.
- If a one-click upsell is possible, the purchase is completed immediately. The customer is then redirected to the next step in your upsell flow.
In any case, when clicking on the no-buy button, the customer is redirected to the next upsell step or, at the end of the upsell flow, to the Digistore24 order confirmation page or your own thank you page.
