The affiliate who brokered a purchase is automatically traced for every purchase. The three most prominent ways to ensure this are the following:
-
Attribution via promolink/content link/cookies:
This attribution works by storing a so-called "cookie" (small text file) in the end customer’s browser when they click on a Digistore24 promolink. When they make a purchase, Digistore24 reads the cookie and therefore knows which affiliate was (last) involved - provided that the buyer has not blocked the setting of cookies in their browser. Moreover, it is important that the buyer uses the same browser from the click on the link to the purchase in which the cookie was initially set. The purchase should then be made within 180 days, as the cookie expires after this period.
Important:
The promolink or content link should not be modified using a link shortener. Otherwise, the attribution may not work correctly.
-
Attribution via discount codes:
A discount code can be assigned to a specific affiliate. This attribution is 100% error-free, even if the browser or device is changed, as long as the discount code was correctly entered by the end customer.
-
Attribution via promo tracking pixel:
Promo tracking pixels are tiny image files that can be integrated using HTML code or our WordPress plugin. Promo pixels have the advantage over the cookie principle (promolink, content link) that they cannot be easily deleted.
How do I test attribution if I use cookies?
There are two ways to do this:
Option 1:
- Open your promolink. Make sure your ID is entered.
- You will now be taken to the sales page of the product for which you created/received the promolink.
- Proceed to the product’s order form.
- At the bottom right of the order form, you will find the affiliate:
If no affiliate could be determined for the purchase, it says: [none]
Option 2:
- Please make sure that your browser allows cookies and that you are not in "incognito or stealth mode".
- If you go to the sales page via a promolink (e.g., https://www.digistore24.com/redir/PRODUKT-ID/AFFILIATE/CAMPAIGNKEY) and click on the Buy button there, you will get to the Digistore24 order form. In the bottom right corner, you will see the affiliate ID of the tracked affiliate in square brackets.
- Make a test purchase.
- Under Reports > Transactions you will see the affiliate name of the tracked affiliate in the respective transaction.
How do I test attribution if I use discount codes?
- Make a test purchase using the discount code that you assigned to an affiliate.
- Don’t be surprised: After the voucher code/discount code has been accepted, the name of another affiliate is still displayed in the bottom right corner if several affiliates have advertised your product.
- Under Reports > Transactions you will see the affiliate name of the tracked affiliate in the respective transaction.
How do I test attribution if I use the promo tracking pixel?
- Use a browser you don’t normally use.
- Call up your website with the addition #aff=AFFILIATE and replace AFFILIATE with the ID of the desired affiliate.
- Go to your order form. In the bottom right corner, you will see the affiliate ID of the tracked affiliate in square brackets.
- Make a test purchase.
- Under Reports > Transactions you will see the affiliate name of the tracked affiliate in the respective transaction.
