With the download vault, you as a vendor automatically make your digital products available for download via the Digistore24 order confirmation page. Upon successful purchase, the customer is directed to where they can download your files stored in the download vault.
Benefits of the download vault:
- Protection against viruses and hacker attacks
- Option to limit the download period
- Option to limit the number of possible downloads
- Possibility to upload multiple files as file packages, e.g. via Google Drive or Dropbox (recommended)
Attention: Fee for using the download vault
In addition to the Digistore24 (reseller) margin, there is a fee of 0.25 euros per started gigabyte for use of the download vault. This applies per purchase. However, further downloads by the customer and as well as uploads are free of charge. Get a sample calculation here.
Note
The use of the download vault is only possible in combination with the Digistore24 order confirmation page. Please leave the thank you page entry blank so that the Digistore24 order confirmation page is automatically set as your thank you page.
1. Before upload: Compress videos
Before you upload your videos to the download vault, it's important that you compress them first. With compressed videos, your upload will be faster and the download smoother for buyers (fewer crashes). If you split your large videos into several smaller videos, buyers can watch your videos in several sessions. You can upload up to 2GB per file package.
We recommend that you compress your videos using the Handbrake tool. To ensure an optimal user experience, we also recommend that you create a website for your videos with Digibiz24.
This has the following benefits:
- Your videos are clearly arranged in the member area and are easy to watch without additional software.
- Your videos will be copy protected.
- The bandwidth is automatically adjusted (depending on the internet connection and device's resolution).
- With the Digibiz24 app, customers can watch your videos offline.
You can find further information here.

- Specify a name (only visible to you).

Attention
Please make sure that you have left the Thank you page field empty in your product's properties (Products > Properties) so that the Digistore24 order confirmation page is automatically used as the thank you page. This is important because the download vault can only be linked to the Digistore24 order confirmation page.
3. Your most important questions regarding the download vault
1. How do I re-activate downloads for a special customer who has used them all up?
If a customer has reached the maximum number of downloads set by you, then they will receive the following message in the download window:
To activate the download option for this customer, proceed as follows.
Step-by-step guide
- In the vendor view, click on Reports > Transactions.
- You can filter out the customer by using the search function. To do this, enter e.g. their name or order ID and then click Search.
- Once you have found the relevant customer, click on the magnifying glass icon for more details.
- In the following menu, scroll to the Journal window.
- By clicking on the button Unlock downloads, the original number of downloads will be available to the customer again.
2. What is the maximum file size in the download vault?
You can upload up to 2 GB per file. For larger files, we recommend you upload them via Google Drive or Dropbox instead of via a web browser.
3. What happens when I change a file package after a purchase?
a. Change existing file package:
If you change or edit a file package, e.g. under Account > Download vault, it has the following effects:
- The file path for your existing customers changes. This means that your existing customers no longer have access to either the old file package version or the new file package version.
- The changed or added files are only available to the new customers. By new customers, we mean customers who purchase your product after you've made the change.
- Workaround:
- If you still want to make an edited file package available, e.g. for new customers, there is a workaround: duplicate your product and store your new files there in the download vault. This way, your existing customers still have access to your old file package and your new customers have access to your new (modified) file package.
b. Add new file package
If you create a completely new file package, which you assign to the corresponding product in the menu Account > Products under the pencil icon in the "Deliver" tab, this has the following effects:
- The file package is only available to new customers.
- Existing customers no longer have a file package available for download.
4. The upload does not work. What can I do?
If you are experiencing complications with the file upload, you should first make sure that the file name of your upload file doesn't contain any special characters or quotation marks. Hyphens and underscores are allowed. This rule also applies to files in the .ZIP archives. If the file name of a file within your .ZIP archive contains an invalid character, the entire file upload will be stopped.
5. Are there any fees for this service?
Digistore24 offers a unique service with the download vault. Your customers can download their files in an uncomplicated manner and we guarantee it will be virus-free. Also, you do not have to worry about technical issues or the risk of digital distribution. To cover the costs, Digistore24 charges 0.25 € for each started gigabyte and per purchase. Only one fee per customer will be charged. Further downloads by the customer and also the upload are free of charge.
An example:
You upload two files totaling 2.5 GB. The upload is free. A customer now buys your product and downloads these files. Since you uploaded two gigabytes and started another, you'll be charged 3 x 0.25 € = 0.75 €. 2.5 GB = 2 GB + 1/2 GB. If a second customer buys your product, you'll be charged another 0.75 €. If 5 customers buy your product, you'll pay 3.75 €.
