How to turn your passion into money online
Valentin has a passion for men’s fashion and wants to use that to earn money on the internet. For this reason, he creates an e-book, containing all his fashion knowledge.
Eric also has a desire: he wants to dress better. But sadly Eric is a real beginner when it comes to fashion. Therefore, he looks for men’s fashion pages on the internet, especially on Facebook.
What happens now?
Eric increasingly receives fashion ads as a result of his data on Google and Facebook. Eventually he clicks on one of the ads and arrives on a so-called landing page. He finds the content convincing and thinks the other information on the homepage is very useful too. After a few clicks, he’s redirected to a sales page for an e-book on men’s fashion. Eric buys it for €29.99 and can download directly afterwards.
This is where Valentin and Eric’s paths cross, because the e-book that Eric bought was produced by Valentin.

How did this happen?
Here Anton comes into play. He operates a men’s fashion website and places ads for Valentin’s e-book on it. Customers are led to Valentin’s sales page by simply clicking on the ad. In the end, Anton receives a commission for each sale. Thus, Anton does all he can to help Valentin sell as many books as possible.

Vendor, customer and affiliate
Each online business has three roles, each of which can be occupied by several people: The vendor, the customer and the affiliate. Valentin is the vendor, that is the product manufacturer, because he wrote the e-book. In our example, the customer is Eric, who bought the book. Anton is the affiliate, the one responsible for advertisement. Alternatively, Valentin could also advertise the e-book himself; then he’d be both vendor and affiliate at the same time.
The cooperation between vendor and affiliate
Valentin, the vendor, personally created the sales page to which Eric was redirected, and has continuously adapted it over time. Customers like Eric should find the sales page pleasant, informative and helpful and not feel bored or be put off from buying the product.
Anton placed a banner ad that Eric eventually clicked on. In addition, Anton also created an informative and useful website on men’s fashion. This website provided Eric with helpful advice which is why he trusted it from the very beginning. Eric only decided to buy Valentin’s e-book because the information on Anton’s website (the so-called content page) was good, compelling and trustworthy.
But how did Anton (affiliate) and Valentin (vendor) find each other?
